The Companion Animal Fund is proud to sponsor the 10th Annual RJ Hess Memorial 5k. On April 23rd, 2013, 1LT RJ Hess was killed in the service of his country in Pul-E-Alam, Afghanistan. 1LT Hess was a graduate of the University of Virginia Army ROTC program and was respected as a genuine leader by his peers. He was an Aviation Officer in the United States Army who graduated from Old Dominion University, at the time a part of the Cavalier Battalion.
RJ loved dogs. While he was at UVA, he would organize trips to local animal shelters to care for the animals there. In his honor, the RJ Hess Memorial 5K partners with the Companion Animal Fund to raise money for animal shelters in the greater Charlottesville area. There will also be a raffle!
